060: basil's kite

After months of neglect, Green Blogs has returned. Here's the first of many ketchup posts I'm doing to get the blog back on its feet. Most've these pics are from summer'09 so let's get them out of the way!

059: R.A.G.U.

The morning after the wedding and some terrifying bilingual karaoke, brunch was in order. My host had been raving about this Plateau vegan spot Aux Vivres so we walked over to something I honestly hadn't been expecting: a delicious filling meal.

It's so like me to take a picture of something I think looks cute... like coffee beans in a brown sugar shaker. Brown sugar is my sugar of choice, thanks oatmeal addiction.

Whenever I go to Montreal, I'm thoroughly disturbed by how much colder it is than Toronto. After a chilly walk in the Plateau, this chai latte couldn't be more welcome. It was spicy, gingery and excellent.

Cute colour scheme/ futura menu boards

I think this was a polenta? cool.

I got the tofu scramble with "bacon". I think Aux Vivres has several types of artificial bacon, one made of coconut being the popular choice for sandwiches and this being the breakfast one. Note the amazing sweet potato, side salad and cornbread.

This place is just really cute.

And little birds sit on the pendant lights.

We couldn't leave without grabbing a couple cookies for the road. Chocolate chip cookies that just happen to be slotted among maybe the top 3 best cookies I've ever had list.

058: forks and knives (la fĂȘte)

Why not pick up where we left off? A few months ago, I left town with the fam for my good friend and lifelong neighbour Tanya's wedding.
Never wasting a moment where he can be awkward, my dad immediately picked up this apron at a sex shop to wear to his "company barbecue". Bank employees, don't say you weren't warned. NSFW.

caught up with Beth and Daniel over dinner. byow

next morning breakfast with my parents. my dad got these banana pecan pancakes. they look pretty lovely.

yet probably couldn't top the smoked salmon eggs benny i had. my mom got the same. deluxe.

don't say the French don't have a sense of humour.

my wedding d8 and i grabbed a quick lunch before the ceremony. apparently this place hosts Risk tournaments on their antique Risk boards (a sprout fell on one and we were nearly kicked out).

here's a wedding appetizer. somehow, i didn't take any pics of hors, champs, entrees or cake. but isn't this wild? grilled vegs and pastry with a balsamic sauce of sorts.

another Francais post coming up!

057: raspberry rush

I realize I haven't kept up with my Student Feeding posts all year, perhaps out of distaste for the kind of things I've had to nosh. Here are a couple of the meatless meals that have been frequenting this tummy.

I could live on this. Shmeared some avocado on bread with splashes of balsamic vinegar and a pinch of salt.

My younger brother-figure Colin and I were cooking our own respective rices the other night. Mine was a long-grain mix with some spinach and feta.

His was "cheddar" rice. Interesting...

Whole wheat pasta swirls (blue menu, obv) with broccoli, canned tomates (a favorite of Steph and I), green olives and a bit of pesto.

Plus I saw this girl making a cake in the shape of a cheerleading vest. Thought it was cute.

News: I got a new place! Expect more home-made meals and ikea food procured in the furnishing process.

056: microwave mayo

Think about one of your friends.
With one word, you can summarize what they're about. 90% of discussions with this friend involve the word. As proof, here are several words, each corresponding to a buddy of mine: fashion, music, boy-drama and the apocalypse. Right now, mine is probably school. I don't talk about much else. The worst part about that, is because most've my school projects have involved food for the past couple months, I've felt less inclined to turn to my food blog as an escape.
Also, I'm broke.

Alas, with every blog hiatus comes a bounty of new pictures. This includes a new header!
The following group of food came from a wonderful night. I had dinner with my parents, met up with my pal Kayla from high school and saw Daniel's comedy show.

Guac, green soda, salsa verde.

Mushroom tacos

This is Kayla, eating pie at Futures (favorite place in high school).

Kayla's cherry pie.

My apple crumble!

055: apple orchard

Forgot about these pics of sushi consumed with my roommate. It ain't a 'ting.

Started off with these sushi-salad rolls.

Katie got the sushi-sashimi platter. I've had it before. It's a lot of fish.

Salmon-tongue.

I got a BBQ eel bowl with Japanese pickles.

It was so much food and our bellies ached but we continued with the night out...

And then downed Caesers!

054: crash at high-speeds, strawberry-kiwi

Hung out at Steph's and watched Jodorowsky's The Holy Mountain.
The night started with some amazing healthy fare.

Big mish-mash salad with yellow peps, asparagus, tomato, sprouts, chick peas, romaine, and assorted seeds and wheat.

Even our salad-hating ginger friend was down.

Closeup business!

Squeeze some lemon on everything.

And the piece de resistance - some pesto fettuccine.

Go Hoff! maybe I'll just start blogging about what you cook.
